Missionary Amy Newsome at her desk in Nagoya, Japan

Women Around the World: Amy Newsome in Japan (AUDIO)

By The enCourage Podcast, Apr 30, 2024

This audio is from the Women of the World series of CDM’s enCourage podcast by Karen Hodge.

When Amy Newsome moved to Nagoya, Japan, to serve as an MTW missionary alongside her husband, Wayne, she could not have imagined they’d still be there 33 years later. God has been faithful. In this interview Amy reflects on the challenges of living in a foreign country, particularly in the early years when language barriers and isolation were intense. Despite doubts and setbacks, Amy found encouragement in witnessing the transformation of individuals through faith, reminding her that her efforts, even unseen, have significance in God's plan.

Amy shares her challenges serving within a church that had a lot of needs while being a wife and mother of five. One of the consistent needs was for counseling—something she had a natural gifting for. In her 40s, Amy was able to get her master’s degree in counseling. She began walking alongside Japanese and missionaries in both Japan and other parts of the world, helping them to heal and develop so they can thrive in their calling. Amy describes this as a “real joy” in this latter third of her ministry in Japan.

We know you’ll be encouraged as you listen to this relatable interview with the Amy Newsome about her work in Nagoya, Japan, and with MTW missionaries around the world.
