Dean & Kyria Baldwin

Kyria and Dean, with their son, joined the MTW church planting team in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2023. As a family they attend and serve in one of the six Ethiopian-led Presbyterian churches planted in partnership with MTW.

On the ground, Dean is part of the preaching rotation at one of the church plants, participates in Presbytery meetings, and seeks to encourage the Ethiopian church leaders. He also works with SIL-Ethiopia to promote minority language Scripture use within the broader Ethiopian church. Kyria serves the local church plant as part of a home-visit team. Kyria and the Ethiopian team members visit, pray with, and seek to encourage church members as well as the sick and infirm. Kyria and Dean continue to dedicate time and energy into learning Amharic, one of Ethiopia’s more than 80 languages.

Prior to their marriage in 2018, Kyria began serving with MTW in 2012 and served for 3.5 years in Senegal. Prior to joining MTW-Ethiopia Dean and Kyria served together in a majority-Muslim country in Central Asia. In Ethiopia they hope to build on these experiences by supporting MTW’s church partners and encouraging outreach among Ethiopia’s large Muslim population.
