The Tumaini (“hope” in Swahili) Counselling Centres in Nairobi, Kenya, and Kampala, Uganda, specialize in missionary mental health care. They provide restorative and preventative mental health and pastoral care services, supporting missionaries serving with over 160 organizations across Africa.
A ministry of Africa Inland Mission, they cooperate with several mission organizations including MTW, enabling counselors to work together to provide support for missionaries within their own organizations and beyond. The current clinical team includes mental health professionals from the U.S., Germany, Sweden, and South Korea, supported by Kenyan and Ugandan staff.
We need others to join them! There is an ongoing need for licensed counselors, social workers, psychiatrists, and psychologists. In particular, we are looking for someone trained to work with children (including a child/adolescent focused psychiatrist) and someone for couples (EFT training a plus). More trauma trained therapists (such as EMDR or TB-CBT, etc) are also needed.
A two-year commitment is ideal, but the minimum would be for six months. You can learn more by visiting the Tumaini Counselling Centre website.
