CTS Paul Kooistra Chair of World Missions
Global | Project # P-0560
For the Church to heed Christ’s command to make disciples of all nations, we need committed, trained pastors who will make missions part of a church’s DNA. Without that pastoral support, a church and their congregation’s commitment to global missions flounders. Yet seminaries struggle to make the teaching of global missions a priority. Few have full-time professors dedicated to teaching missions. This has left a severe gap in the training of pastors, leaving the church ill-equipped to take the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Mission to the World, in partnership with Covenant Seminary, is pleased to announce the formation of an endowment for the Dr. Paul D. Kooistra Chair of World Missions. Dr. Paul Kooistra served as president of Covenant Seminary from 1985–1994, and coordinator of MTW from 1994–2014. Dr. Kooistra’s excellent leadership, emphasis on God’s grace, and commitment to financial soundness have left an indelible mark on both organizations. This chair is a fitting tribute to his work.
This endowment will enable Covenant Seminary to employ a full-time professor of world missions who will educate future pastors about God’s mission and will help cultivate their passion for God’s work around the world. This will help create a culture of global missions in PCA churches around the country. The ripple effect is more churches raising up and sending new missionaries, opening new fields, and taking the gospel to unreached people groups.
