Parker, Laura
Serving in Japan | Acct # 400469
Laura began falling in love with the Japanese language and culture in high school. Her passion for Japan continued to grow as she majored in Japanese and minored in Asian studies in college and spent one year abroad at Waseda University in Tokyo. As she learned about Japan’s cultural obstacles to Christianity, she felt God increasingly putting its people, the world’s second largest unreached people group, on her heart.
After graduation, Laura worked at a Christian school in Aomori, Japan, for five years teaching English and delivering chapel talks. Encouraged by opportunities she had to build relationships and share the gospel, she longed to be in a position where she could minister full time to those around her. In 2018, Laura returned to the U.S. to earn an M.A. in theological studies from Westminster Theological Seminary.
Laura is now thrilled to return to Japan to serve long term on a church-planting team in Chiba Prefecture. She eagerly desires to serve a local church by assisting with women’s ministry, discipling middle school and high school girls, and starting an English outreach program. Her prayer is that the gospel would advance mightily in Japan, bringing new people to Christ and continually empowering and emboldening existing believers.
