Verne is a “missionary kid” and grew up in Peru. Alina, born in Cuba, emigrated with her family to the USA at the age of three and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. Verne and Alina graduated from Columbia International University, and Verne graduated from Covenant Theological Seminary. They were married in 1980 and began to work in Santiago, Chile in 1985. They have five grown children: Naphtali, Larissa, Chris, Stefan and Anelise.
Alina graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary in 2014. Verne and Alina have been active in evangelism, discipleship, teaching, preaching, and counseling all in the context of planting churches in Santiago. Verne has a heart for preparing the church apologetically in order to impact Chilean culture. Alina has a burden for those who are struggling with relational, emotional, and sexual brokenness. They are part of a team that is working alongside national church planters to plant churches in northeastern Santiago.
