TAIWAN
One hundred and ten miles off the Chinese coast sits the independent island nation of Taiwan. Culturally diverse and economically prosperous, ancient and contemporary, Taiwan is a fascinating meeting place of many worlds. Yet, as a mission field, it is difficult. Traditional Chinese culture and religion have deep roots here, making it hard to penetrate with the gospel. And with prosperity has come secularism, materialism, and indifference to Christianity.
Both in the bustling metropolis of Taipei, the country’s capital, and in the countryside, MTW missionaries are working to bring the hope of Christ in three key areas: higher education, theological education, and church development. MTW has had a long-standing ministry with Christ’s College in Taipei. Now, the team is also building partnerships in the city with PCA teaching elders at established churches, church plants, and seminaries. In Taipei, and in our separate ministry to the Hakka people in rural Taiwan, we’re working to bolster existing ministries, foster new ones, and advance the cause of the gospel.
